Music and Las Madres brings us together

Hey there! We are  thrilled to introduce you to Terra, a harmonious member of our Las Madres community, who's graciously agreed to share her journey with us. Terra's story is an example of  the power of community and finding your village in parenthood, especially in the whirlwind adventure of moving across the country, being an entrepreneur and still pursuing your own passion.

From musician to Mom

Terra's journey has taken her across many stops on the map, from Missouri to Texas and now to the heart of our Las Madres community in San Jose, CA. With a background in music education at the University of Texas and a passion for nurturing young minds, Terra wears many hats – from being a stay-at-home mom to 2,5 year old Tad (short for Thaddeus) to teaching violin and viola lessons (you can learn more about her music classes here) and running the String Project at SJSU. Terra and her husband are also fur parents to two beautiful cats called Simon and Surely.

Discovering Las Madres

Like many of us, Terra found herself in a new city without the familiar support network of friends and family. It was during her postpartum journey that she stumbled upon Las Madres, thanks to her pelvic floor physical therapist who recognized her need for a supportive community.

Embracing the community

Terra dove headfirst into the Las Madres community, recognizing the need for a village in her motherhood journey and knowing she had much to offer in return. Starting as a secretary for RGDT and engaging in event planning, Terra found joy in connecting with fellow parents and sharing her passion for music with young learners. Her amazing violin studio hosts Las Madres and other families and she recently became a Las Madres business partner because of the appreciation for everything she has found within this organization.

From surviving to thriving

Las Madres became Terra's go to knowledge base and support system, helping her overcome the uncertainties and anxiety of being a first time mom and empowering her to embrace the  small and big adventures of parenthood. Terra and her family enjoy playing concerts at the halloween parties for RGDT, hosting events for Night Market in Japantown, going to leprechaun hunts and Friendsgiving photo events and of course learning about all the Bay Area has to offer. Tad loves the different parks, hikes, playdates, and friends he has made and even her husband has joined some of the events!

Gaining fresh perspective

Terra's journey reminds us that in the rollercoaster of parenthood, we're never alone. Las Madres isn't just about playdates and events; it's about finding solidarity, support, and shared experiences that enrich our lives and make the journey of parenting a little less daunting.

Whether you're a new parent navigating uncharted waters or a seasoned pro seeking connection, Las Madres welcomes you with open arms.

Join us (we even offer two free months before you commit to a membership), and let's navigate this beautiful journey of parenthood together. After all, it takes a village, and we're here to be yours.
