Our Las Madres Spotlight Blog- Guillermina Guillen-Omar

Guillermina w/ her two daughters, Maya and Analucía

Our volunteers are the backbone of our organization. Without their willingness to go above and beyond, Las Madres would not have such an amazing community spirit . This week we would like to recognize Guillermina Guillen-Omar as the Las Madres Spotlight Member.

Guillermina started volunteering with Las Madres in January of 2017 as a Big Sister to help start the Sunnyvale/Santa Clara 2017 group. When she became pregnant with her second daughter she decided to stay on a New Member Contact for SS2017, and then later for SS2018 as well. Currently, she is the co-president of the Sunnyvale/Santa Clara Club.

She encompasses the sweet simplicity of what Las Madres is all about, and getting together for playdates! Her SS2017 and 2018 groups can each count on her for weekly playdates with her two daughters, which is so wonderful to be able to form solid friendships and keep up with one another.

A member of Guillermina’s playgroup, Yerica Parker nominated her for this Spotlight, saying, “There are people who inspire you, who open their homes, who always show up and there is Guillermina. She is the WOW mom from Las Madres, she takes on to host a playdate every week so the playgroups keep going (yes one for each of her children), she plans a special activity every holiday with a cute craft for the kids, and opens her house on hot or rainy days. Always proud of being a stay home mom, calm, non judgmental, unassuming and welcoming. She inspires the rest of us to be organized, to always smile, to be patient and assertive with not just our kids but with each other. Like the kind of mom you want to be when you grow up :) She is the soul of 2018 Sunnyvale/Santa Clara playgroup.”

Sunnyvale/Santa Clara Babies and Blankets Playdate

Guillermina volunteers because,“Parenting is hard and it’s easier to go through it with others dealing with the same things as you.” She doesn’t have family close by, as is the case with many other members, and the playdates are a great way to still find support and learning through one another. She also mentioned, “I really enjoy catching up with everyone each week, but this used to be easier when our babies were happy to lay back and stare at the sky while we chatted. Now we make the best of the time we have before our little ones run in opposite directions.”

Thank you for all that you do for your Las Madres groups, Guillermina!
