Our volunteers are the backbone of our organization. Without their willingness to go above and beyond, Las Madres would not have such an amazing community spirit.
This week we would like to recognize Sharilyn Smyth as the Las Madres Spotlight Member.
Sharilyn has a unique story. She has been a member of Las Madres her entire life. Her mother, Marian, was part of the Cambrian Las Madres playgroup in 1989. She is still close to the kids she grew up with in her Las Madres playgroups.

She joined as a mom when her daughter Everleigh was born in 2016. Currently, Sharilyn is the co-director of the South Valley/Almaden 2016 playgroup and also a member of the South Valley/Almaden 2018 playgroup with her son Weston.
According to fellow Las Madres Mom, Stephanie, “She makes it a point to meet and maintain a friendship with every group member! She also consistently opens her home for play dates, plans nearly every party, MNO, and attends most events. Without her, our 2016 group couldn’t survive! She’s simultaneously the backbone and the heart of our group!”
Sharilyn is a dedicated Las Madres member because of the intrinsic motivation volunteering brings her, “I saw and experienced the impact the friendships made on my life and my mom’s life growing up and I wanted the same thing for my kids and I. I also love to organize fun events and help out any way I can so I felt like the director position was the best way to go. I enjoy seeing everyone on the regular, meeting new families, building relationships, and of course seeing my kids interact with their friends and build a special bond. I’ve really enjoyed being the director and being a part of all the big events.”
We love that she is not just a volunteer but also an alumni kid. Our organization has been a
part of Santa Clara County for the last 60 years. Thank you Sharilyn for all that you do for our community!
